In between the two villages we have discovered a delightful short walk (30mins return trip) through the wooded Rocky Valley, which follows a crystal clear river down to the sea. Small waterfalls and swirl holes interrupt its sparkling progress as it flows through the narrow glen-like valley.
Along the way, the ruins of Trewethet Mill come into sight. Here, carved on a flat outcrop of rock, beside the buildings, are two mysterious labyrinth patterns. These are believed to date from the early Bronze Age 1800-1400BC, but are remarkably well preserved if they really are that old.
We extended our walk by climbing up the steep path towards Tintagel to take in the super views from the headland. We then returned to the valley, crossing a bridge and headed towards Boscastle, along the cliff path to the Ladies Window Rock Arch. This detour was well worth it, before retracing our steps back along Rocky Valley. We were so pleased to have discovered this memorable walk, full of variety and super views.
