Bodmin moor with its wonderful mining heritage, granite tors, standing stones and mysterious legends is just a 10 minute drive from Cider Cottage. There is plenty to explore on the moor with its dramatic scenery and spectacular views and the walk to Stowes Hill is our favourite. Just a short walk, approx 25mins, brings you to the famous Cheesewring which is a natural geological formation, a rock outcrop of granite slabs formed by weathering. The Cheesewring gets its name from the “cheeses” of severely squashed apple pulp that are produced in traditional cider making - very appropriate for a visit from Cider Cottage. The views are stunning and there are other spectacular rock formations on Stowe’s Hill, it’s a photographer’s dream. |
The hurlers You can return to your car via the Hurlers a unique Bronze Age monument consisting of 3 circles of standing stones. And perhaps call into the Visitors Centre housed in an old mine engine building. You might wish to linger in Minions, the highest village in Cornwall, and enjoy a famous Cornish cream tea in one of the cafes, or enjoy some Cornish cider in the Pub, before returning to relax in Cider Cottage.
